The trend of tightening guidelines for ERRCS continues across the country. Many municipalities, AHJ’s (Authorities Having Jurisdiction), and Fire Marshals are tightening the guidelines for buildings. The need for testing/systems to ensure First Responders have seamless two-way radio communications inside buildings has grown immensely. As of recently, Fort Bend County in Texas has changed its guidelines for new buildings with the requirement of ERRCS testing before occupancy. Previously, buildings UNDER 50,000 square feet did not require testing. Changes to the fire code now require new buildings OVER 12,000 square feet to be tested. Ultimately, this is going to require a lot of projects in Fort Bend County to be tested that were previously exempt.
Regulations nationwide are getting tighter, and that trend will continue to rise. Most buildings under 50,000 square feet will most likely not have issues with two-way radio communications, but there will be exceptions. Undoubtedly, testing is the only way to determine the need. Don’t get caught in a situation where your occupancy permit is delayed. Testing with the professionals at SpeakEZ Communications is easy, inexpensive, and hassle-free.
